WRITING CRAFT: BUILD YOUR OWN MINI DICTIONARY
A simple way to get started, sharpen your tone, write with intention
Unlike prompts, which tell you what to write, tools are about how. They’re highly adaptable, not prescriptive, useful for any writer at any level.
I researched different writing tools, and this is one of my favorites. You can use it for your journal, your novel, your script, your Substack draft. Wherever you are in your process, it meets you there.
Build your own mini dictionary
We live by the words we know. A single word can illuminate what we feel or color the world we create. Building a curated lexicon of words that resonate with you is an act of self-reflection and a toolkit for creative expression.
Below, I’ll go into why this practice works (for the psyche and the story), how to craft your own list, and how it can infuse both your journaling and fiction with clarity, voice, and emotional depth.
Use it however you want. For your current project, your personal writing, or even just as a creative reset.
Your own collection of words
Words that sound like you, or your character, or the tone of the piece you’re working on.
